Re: [soa-iwg] Content of the Eclipse SOA Package

Hello Scott,

let's start the SOA package with the basic WS tooling and the corresponding runtime. In the meantime we can discuss how ECF integrates best with the rest of the components and how to position the two approaches to service orientation with respect to each other. We should make sure we have a coherent package and not just a disaggregated set of components. Again, feel free to bring in your point of view and contribute to the roadmap. Just add your points to the slides and send it back to the mailing list, so we can discuss it openly. I will be more than happy to add the result of the discussion to the master. As you might have seen in the roadmap the current SOA package is only a starting point. We plan to enhance it in the next months and I am confident there is a place for ECF. You just have to participate

For Mylin you are right, it is not a must have in a SOA package,  but I felt it being such basic Eclipse component similar to CVS team support, that should be included in every Eclipse package (if it does make sense).

BTW, I think ECF being the wire between equinox based SCA runtimes would really make a lot of sense :-)

Hi Zsolt, all,

I would also request that the ECF remote services and discovery support
(i.e. the impl of RFC119/Distributed OSGi + dependencies + a few
selected providers) be included in this package.

I can easily produce a feature that includes the relevant bundles, but
not today as I'm giving a presentation at Google about Distributed OSGi
(coincidently).  It can easily be one feature, with total size (of all
bundles in feature) < 1M.   Currently this feature doesn't exist...but
like I said it's trivial to create.

And one naive question...although I love Mylyn, I don't immediately
understand why it would be necessarily included in SOA package (unless
some of the Swordfish tools depend upon it...which is/would be cool).

As promised in yesterdays conf call here are the features hat I intend
to propose to the EPP project for our Eclipse SOA package. It includes
all the features of the RCP package (except the features containing
the sources)
- org.eclipse.cvs
- org.eclipse.equinox.p2.user.ui
- org.eclipse.help
- org.eclipse.jdt
- org.eclipse.pde
- org.eclipse.platform
- org.eclipse.rcp
- org.eclipse.mylyn.ide_feature
- org.eclipse.mylyn.java_feature
- org.eclipse.mylyn.pde_feature
- org.eclipse.mylyn.bugzilla_feature
- org.eclipse.mylyn.context_feature
- org.eclipse.mylyn_feature
- org.eclipse.mylyn.wikitext_feature
- org.eclipse.mylyn.sdk_feature
and additionally the WTP features containing the XML/ XSD editors and
the WSDL editor
- org.eclipse.wst.xml_ui.feature
- org.eclipse.wst.ws_ui.feature
and last but mot least the Swordfish tooling feature
- org.eclipse.swordfish.tooling.feature

I also need to provide a title, description, and icon for the package,
which will appear on the download site
(http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/) <http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/%29>
My proposals are
Title: Eclipse SOA Platform for Java and SOA Developers
Description: Eclipse SOA Platform is a runtimes and tools integration
platform for SOA developers. It makes easy to get the environment you
need for developing and executing SOA. It includes a Java IDE,
Swordfish Tooling, the Plugin Development Environment (PDE), an XML
Editor and a WSDL Editor.
Icon: Can someone provide me an icon in jpeg format (48 X 48)?
BTW, I will also need the icon in the gif and png format with the
following sizes 16 X 16, 24 X 24, 32 X 32, and 48 X 48.

Please give me feedback regarding the content and the description as
soon as possible because the EPP projects is awaiting our input.

Zsolt
