Hello Eclipse SDV Community,
I would like to propose the creation of an India Special Interest Group (SIG) within the Eclipse Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) Working Group.
The India SIG will serve as a collaborative platform to bring together Indian automotive ecosystem stakeholders, including OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, technology providers, startups, academic institutions, and open-source contributors. The objective is to accelerate
the adoption of Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) technologies in India while ensuring that India-specific requirements and innovations are reflected in the global Eclipse SDV ecosystem.
Rationale
India is among the world's fastest-growing automotive markets and presents unique challenges and opportunities across Two-wheelers (2W), Three-wheelers (3W),Passenger vehicles (PV). Commercial vehicles (CV),Connected and shared mobility solutions.
The Indian market requires software platforms that address:
-
Cost-sensitive vehicle architectures
-
Diverse connectivity environments
-
Regional mobility use cases
-
Functional safety and cybersecurity requirements
-
Emerging regulatory frameworks such as AIS-189, AIS-190, and related standards
While the Eclipse SDV ecosystem is creating a strong global foundation for software-defined vehicles, there is currently no dedicated forum focused on consolidating and representing India's requirements, use cases, and innovations.
The proposed India SIG will provide a structured mechanism for collaboration, enabling Indian stakeholders to contribute collectively to Eclipse SDV initiatives while accelerating local adoption of open-source automotive software platforms.
Scope
The India SIG will focus on the following areas:
Technical Alignment
-
Define and prioritize India-specific SDV requirements.
-
Identify common software building blocks and reusable components.
-
Promote interoperability and standardization across vehicle segments.
-
Drive adoption and contribution to Eclipse SDV projects, including Eclipse S-CORE and related initiatives.
Regulatory and Compliance Alignment
-
Facilitate discussions around functional safety, cybersecurity, software lifecycle management, and homologation requirements relevant to the Indian market.
-
Share best practices and reference approaches for compliance with emerging Indian regulations.
Ecosystem Collaboration
-
Foster collaboration among OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, startups, technology providers, academia, and research organizations.
-
Encourage knowledge sharing, workshops, technology demonstrations, and community-driven innovation.
Open Source Contributions
-
Promote upstream-first development.
-
Translate India-specific requirements into reusable contributions that can be adopted globally.
-
Enable participation of Indian organizations and engineers in Eclipse SDV governance and project activities.
Expected Outcomes
Near-Term Outcomes
-
Establishment of a recognized industry forum for India-specific SDV discussions.
-
Increased participation of Indian organizations in Eclipse SDV projects.
-
Improved alignment between Indian automotive requirements and global SDV roadmaps.
-
Enhanced collaboration between industry, academia, and open-source communities.
Strategic Outcomes
-
India becomes a significant contributor to the global SDV ecosystem.
-
Greater adoption of open-source, safety-certifiable vehicle software platforms within India.
-
Improved software reuse and interoperability across automotive programs.
-
Increased innovation velocity through collaborative development and shared software foundations.
-
Stronger ecosystem readiness for safety, cybersecurity, and software-centric vehicle architectures.
Aspirational Targets
Over the next 3-5 years, the India SIG aims to:
-
Establish India as one of the leading contributors to Eclipse SDV and Eclipse S-CORE initiatives.
-
Build a vibrant community spanning OEMs, suppliers, startups, universities, and technology partners.
-
Enable India-originated requirements, reference architectures, and use cases to influence global SDV standards and platforms.
-
Accelerate adoption of SDV technologies across 2W, 3W, passenger, and commercial vehicle segments.
-
Create a recognized center of excellence for open-source automotive software, functional safety, and cybersecurity collaboration.
-
Position the Bharat SDV initiative as a global example of industry-wide collaboration around software-defined mobility.
