Now since SR1 (CDT 6.0.1) is out, you should be able to install it online from the *CDT* Galileo update site at
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/galileo
Note the "the rest of CDT" isn't available from the regular Galileo update site.
Note, however, that CDT 6.0.1 doesn't bump its feature versions, so it will still "look like" CDT 6.0.0
If you see 20090911xxxx at the end of the plugins and feature versions, though, it's the right one.
CDT 6.0.1 final version was built on 20090911
I still prefer installing "offline" from the cdt-master-xxx.zip file, though.

The XLC support for RDT needs to be made into a feature so it can be skipped. It shouldn't be a problem to install CDT-XLC, but I think both it and the CDT-UPC support can only be installed from the CDT master update archive.
