Re: [platform-vcm-dev] VCM plugin for StarTeam
|
[NOTE: Apologies if anyone gets this twice. I'm still trying to figure out
how replies work with our new
mailing lists and Lotus Notes. Apparently you should do one of the
following:
1) Reply to ALL with history if you want the message to go to the
mailing list AND to the sender,
plus anyone on the CC list.
2) Reply with history BUT change who you're sending it to to
platform-vcm-dev, otherwise it'll
just go to the sender and not to the mailing list.
Unless people say otherwise, a popular internet convention is just to
reply to ALL, which means
that the sender gets two copies: one from the mailing list and one sent
directly. Some people like
this because it brings email to their attention which is directed at them,
so it doesn't get lost with
all the other list email]
Hi Ringo,
You might find the following document interesting:
http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/platform-vcm-home/docs/online/vcm_story2.0/vcm2story.html
It is an explanation of the focus of our current work. In 1.0 we ended up
with a repository adapter that was very CVS-centric,
and we are in the process of re-architecting the VCM component to provide
more customizability and flexibility to
the repository provider. For this reason, we are currently asking that
people interested in implementing repository
adapters hold off until our new work can be released. It may be *possible*
to write a repository adapter for our
1.0 codebase (i.e. what is currently released in CVS), but you may
encounter serious problems, and the API will
most definitely undergo a radical change before 2.0 is released, requiring
you to do much work if you implemented
for the 1.0 codebase. From the above document,
"Our plan is to have the VCM 2.0 design closed off by end of year, and an
initial cut of our new CVS adapter written for
VCM 2.0 in that same time frame. We are eager to work with repository
vendors in the context of the Eclipse Project
at eclipse.org in that same time frame, in order to validate our design,
and to ensure that there will be first class integrations
from the major vendors for the release of Eclipse 2.0."
So I guess the word is: be patient, and there will soon be a much better
API for you to work with.

Thanks for your interest,
james

Subject: [platform-vcm-dev] VCM plugin for StarTeam
Hello,
I apologize for my first message being wrong. Here is what I wanted to
say to this list:
I am interested in creating a VCM plugin for StarTeam. The company I
work for is using StarTeam and we also have the StarTeam SDK available.
This SDK contains a full Java library to all the features of StarTeam,
so an Eclipse binding can't be that hard.
Where to go from here?
Ringo
