If you want to start now, I would focus on the implementations of the
actual observable objects.  They are interesting abstractions in their
own right, and I don't see us changing their API before making it
public, unless we figure out how to deal with multiple threads (see
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=116920#c10).
