Scott, can you (or your secret source :-) elaborate on the technical issues why the drop-ins cannot be used in RCP applications? This surprises me and I would like to understand it more.

This calls ProfileSynchronizer to install the things it finds in the dropins repositories. I've heard through my extensive underground network at EclipseCon that p2 doesn't currently support using dropins support for rcp apps...so unless I hear otherwise I'll just end this thread.
