| [osgi-dev] Reorganization of some OSGi Projects |
Hi,
since
we moved to the Eclipse Foundation and the founding of the OSGi
Specification and Technology Project, we also brought the OSGi
Github Organization over, which both Projects shared. OSGi
Technology is meant to be a home of useful tools around OSGi and
implementations of specifications. As OSGi is a Standard with
potentially many implementations for any given specifications,
we don’t want to give the impression that projects in here are
somehow preferred or recommended by OSGi. For that reason, we
decided to use org.eclipse.osgi-technology as the maven GroupId.
Pre Eclipse Foundation, the Alliance had a few projects besides
the Specification under its umbrella though:

With the move to EF, they have been formally placed under the OSGi Technology Project and have the historic GroupId org.osgi. With the new doctrine of the EF to give each project, its own organization we had been in a lit of a pickle here, as the OSGi Technology Project is an independent entity and has no right to publish to org.osgi, as it does not have the credentials for that. If they had been formally placed under the umbrella of the Specification Project, the release process would become much more complicated due to the Eclipse Specification Development Process.

Thus, in today’s Working Group Steering Committee Meeting we approved to move the above-mentioned projects to https://github.com/eclipse-osgi-technology/ and grant access to release that projects under the org.osgi GroupId.
