Re: [osgi-dev] [osgi-technology-dev] OSGi Technology Project co-lead retirements

Dear BJ,

I started on my OSGi journey roughly a decade ago. It did not take long, until I stumbled upon BJ's name. He has been on the forefront of its inception and significantly helped to form OSGi as a stable and reliable technology. He is a hard sparing partner and he helped shaped nearly all specifications.

We are in deep gratitude to you for all your work and effort you've put in the running of the different projects, the former OSGi Alliance and now Working Group. In the name of the whole community, we want to thank you, BJ, with all our hearts! You did more than a great job and you will be really missed in all areas. We hope to still see you around from time to time. At the same time, we wish, that you'll find joy and fulfillment in your new role at IBM. After such a long time, something new can be invigorating.

On a personal note, I want to thank you as well. Even when I did not enjoy it, when you slapped down my ideas (we internally called it the BJ slap), did I relish the learning experience this gave me. Nowadays I realize that such hard discussions are necessary to get something great in the end. I use a lot of things, you have created and maintained on a daily basis and can hardly express the gratitude I feel.

To the Community:

After a week, we are still a bit in shock and it is time for us all to step up and help filling the big hole, BJ leaves in our rank. We have a lot of great minds, that are involved in a lot of our projects and I'm pretty sure, that we have enough shoulders to bear the load. I'm looking forward to the coming weeks and months to see what we can achieve together.

All the best,

Jürgen.

With a change in my role at work, I will no longer have time to work on OSGi on a regular basis nor to be a project co-lead for the OSGi Technology project. Ray will also be stepping back from being a project co-lead for the OSGi Technology project.

So, we will both be retiring as project leads and a new project lead will need to be elected by the project committers.

So now we need any project committers who would be willing to become the project lead to be nominated followed by an election.

Please consider taking on this role and nominating yourself. Ray and I will, of course, be available to aid in the transition.
