Re: [orbit-dev] Let's promote another S build on Monday afternoon?

Hi, David,

Sounds good to me! This should mean that users who step up (using Update
Manager) from the M4 Ganymede to M5 will not be hosed by the ensuing
replication of Batik bundles. Some products that I know of are not
susceptible to this because they use the platform.xml facility of
enumeration the individual bundles in the configuration.

I'm fairly certain that the Platform doesn't use Batik. Too bad; I should
have liked to preserve EMF's reputation as the M5a instigator for another
year. :-D

around 3 PM Eastern?

I checked, and the only things that have changed in map files, since last
S-build, are the two issues that have been talked about .... Batik and
ch.ethz.iks.slp.

And, Batik does consist of 13 bundles (26 if you count source) so ... I
think that might deserve "S" status, I think there's at least 3 projects
that use Batik and will have to make sure they get the latest versions,
after Monday's S-build.

Let's say that's the plan unless anyone has a counter proposal or
objection?

So ... Orbiteers ... please don't release anything else to the map files,
so I won't have to mess with branching. Unless it is blocking someone's
delivery of M5.

Hopefully the Platform doesn't use Batik ... or, there's your M5a :)

Thanks,

Ok ... if we are going to re-do the Batik bundles, I think we might want to
produce another S-build, instead of I-build,
since those bundles are shared by many projects, so I think we may need a
more "official" build. ... to help increase
the odds of everyone using the right build for their milestone build.

At worst, we might have to do a "branched build" to include only things
that are intended to be changed. But,
I'm not sure anyone has changed much else anyway?

Thanks,

Hi, Scott,

I certainly wouldn't mind piggy-backing my
multiple-installed-builds-of-Batik-bundles-cause-class-loading-problems fix
on your I-build!

I would like to request promoting an Orbit I build to the downloads page
in order to pick up recent fixes for ECF M5.

If you want more details see below.

In theory it could, but

1. should ask on orbit-dev list so everyone can weigh in

2. the problem with having another stable build is then there's some
confusion about which one people should use ... the one we said to use,
or the most recent.

3. It's much easier to promote a new I-build ... then you can rely on
that URL until the next S build, so not that much stress on you.

4. Kind of an aside, but do you know if there are other clients of this
bundle?

So .... I suggest you request (on orbit-dev, to set a good example :)
that an I-build be promoted to the downloads page, so you have the
stable URL for M5.
Sound ok?

Thanks,

Hi David,

The jSLP bundle (ch.ethz.iks.slp_1.0.0
<
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/orbit/downloads/drops/S20080203062035/bundles/ch.ethz.iks.slp_1.0.0.RC2_v200802011126.jar

>)

was recently added to Orbit and I see that it was included in the Feb 3
build:

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/orbit/downloads/drops/S20080203062035/

We discovered this week that there was a build problem that makes it
unusable for us. Chris A has since fixed the problem, and we would like
to use the Orbit-provided bundle in our build as soon as possible (so
that we can deploy jSLP with ECF M5).

Could an Orbit 'stable' build be done with the latest contents?

Thanks,

Scott
