[mpc-dev] MPC not opening if installation path contains spaces

Hi everyone,

The Marketplace Client release for Photon has a bug that makes it fail to open in certain cases. A fix is available at http://download.eclipse.org/mpc/photon and needs to be installed manually via "Help / Install New Software" for now.

The problem affects users that have their Eclipse installed into a path that contains spaces (see bug 536385 [1]) - or more accurately, whose area path contains spaces.

This includes users who
- rename their Eclipse directory to something like "Eclipse Photon"
- install Eclipse under a path that has spaces, e.g. "/Users/john/My Projects/eclipse"
- use the "-configuration" option to set the config area to something with spaces in it

It does not include installations to read-only locations with spaces, e.g. "C:\Program Files\eclipse", because in that case, Eclipse will use a writeable overlay directory in $HOME/.eclipse without spaces.

I'll keep everyone updated on the bug, and will update you here once the fix is rolled out to the Simultaneous Release to be picked up by everyone more easily.

Best regards,
Carsten
