[lepido-dev] Re: [Contribution] Sitemap Debugger/Trace

Yes, having more people being involved is needed, and yes, we need to
grow the code base. However, this doesn't mean that any code that is
donated has to go into the CVS. Sure, that may be perceived as having
too high standards or even as being scornful, but my fear is that committing existing but inadequate code is likely to hinder the development of something new and larger.

I didn't quoted your statement to get our code into CVS. Furthermore I think it's not approprite to designate any contribution inadequate.

Why so? I welcomed the fact that you decided to contribute. Now studying the donation releaved that it is really to far from being the foundations on which we could build the Lepido debugger, which is why I finally decided not to accept it. I can elaborate on these technical reasons if you want to.

The aim was that you should reconsider what you've said and try to
find a way to get some people involved. As you might have noticed
it doesn't work with just starting an open source project, dropping
some code in an work quietly on it. It's more about building a
community and this is about communicating.

Jens, do you think I don't know that? Now building a community also requires the initial seeders of the project to invest a good amount of time, and I admit with no problem that we failed to dedicate that time. Ross also reminded us of this.

Lepido in its current form also has another problem I envisioned but didn't suspected as being so important: the current features are really end-user and beginner oriented, meaning mostly people that just want to use the stuff and aren't really interested in getting involved in its development. I guess it's a general problem of tooling projects compared to development frameworks.

Now I hope this will change with a debugger, as it's targeted also at advanced users that do some complex applications. I will therefore put an extra effort on the debugger in the coming weeks (as many OSS developers, I wish days had more than 24 hours). And hopefully once we have the foundations laid out it will attract people on board, you included.
