I look forward to seeing and trying out your debugger. After that then we
can obviously talk about what a joint version could look like.
Great.
In the meantime, here are some very interesting resources about the Eclipse debugger framework:
- How to write an Eclipse debugger:
http://www.eclipse.org/articles/Article-Debugger/how-to.html
- Material of the EclipseCon 2005 tutorial:
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2005/presentations/EclipseCon2005_Tutorial21.zip
Yes, I know this stuff. As I've mentioned on
http://wiki.apache.org/cocoon/LepidoSitemapDebugger
we need to discuss if it is usefull to port our debugger to the Eclipse Debugging Infrastructure.
If it is useful? Of course it is! And I can't imagine not using all the
nice stuff this brings us, along with being consistent (or why not
integrated) with the JDT.
But please remember what you've posted on the newsgroup some days ago:
"So unless external contributors or sponsors jump in to help us moving
forward, Lepido's growth will be slow."
Yup, and I guess this is what triggered your contribution.
Yes, having more people being involved is needed, and yes, we need to
grow the code base. However, this doesn't mean that any code that is
donated has to go into the CVS. Sure, that may be perceived as having
too high standards or even as being scornful, but my fear is that
committing existing but inadequate code is likely to hinder the
development of something new and larger.
Now I'm happy to see that you want to get involved and will do my best
to allow us to collaboratively work on a real debugger.
