I can think of a use-case: Sparkleshare.  I'm pretty sure it does
shallow clones.  Granted, it is not the conventional usage of version
control, but if you are using Sparkleshare as your client for some repo,
I think you are less interested in seeing what happened before you
cloned and more interested in seeing what happens afterwards.  Obviously
Sparkleshare is not the right tool for code, but as a dropbox
alternative it's not too bad.
