Re: [jakartaee-platform-dev] [cu-dev] Come up with new name for the Concurrency implementation project

Since it is used and intended to be used by other runtimes in addition to glassfish, I think keeping it under the Eclipse ee4j project instead of moving it under glassfish makes more sense.
As for the name, I have some minor comments.
Eclipse Concurrency for Jakarta - the name is too close to the spec project name
Eclipse Synchro - sounds good.

Thanks
Emily

So are other repos under the Glassfish "project" so nothing prevents use outside of Eclipse GlassFish.  Is there likely to be a separate group of committers who want to form an additional project? Do other implementations use it and do they want a separate project?

There's indeed no other group of committers that I know of. The concurrency implementation jar is (or was) used by WildFly according to the table here: https://arjan-tijms.omnifaces.org/2020/05/implementation-components-used-by.html

I'd be fine with moving it to GlassFish. How would we do that officially? Ask for PMC agreement, then just create a new GlassFish repo and push the code to there? Maybe look at the Sonatype staging rules to see if the GlassFish bot has the correct rights, and that probably would be it?

Kind regards,

Because it is freely usable outside of GlassFish?

tbh I think it should just be moved under the GlassFish project. I don't see why we need a separate project.

Hi,

Is there already an Eclipse project for the "Concurrency RI" that is separate from the Jakarta Currency project and committers?

If there is a separate project, this conversation should likely be moved to that list.  If not, we should create that project and let those committers decide.

Nope, for some reason the specification project for Concurrency and the implementation got initially delivered in the same Eclipse project.

As there's already a separate repo and everything I think the process is purely administrative to make the current "Concurrency RI" a separate project. I'd like to propose a new project using the usual tools and just say it's a restructuring. The only thing we'd really need to get that started is a name I guess.

Kind regards,

Arjan
