Re: [jakartaee-platform-dev] VOTE: Specifications to Prune in Jakarta EE 9

Hi,

Big +1 for that list

I noticed a tiny bit of confusion around "Jakarta Enterprise Web Services". Steve added JSR 109 to this, which should make it clear, but to be sure: this is *not* JAX-WS, which is now called Jakarta XML Web Service (https://projects.eclipse.org/projects/ee4j.jaxws).

@Guillermo the HTTP alternative in Payara to the best of my knowledge does not yet fully replace remote EJB. Things such as stateful session beans and transaction- and security propagation weren't supported yet when I worked on it. I mentioned it here: https://blog.payara.fish/remote-ejb-via-http  Might be a good topic for another thread to see if we can standardise something here.
Thanks for the insight. To be honest, I don't know to what extent WildFly supports full EJB remoting via HTTP, but removing the RMI-IIOP requirements doesn't mean noone can use it, but that you aren't forced to support such an ancient technology.

Kind regards,
Arjan

I'm not sure if only Platform commiters can finally vote. If not, my vote is +1.

In Java EE 8, remote EJB through RMI-IIOP protocol was made optional. Can we also remove that requirement? At least WildFly and Payara already offer alternative implementations via HTTP.
