Can you clarify, what is an Influencer member, and what is a Participant member, and in particular how it's decided who is an Influencer and who is a Participant? In the Eclipse membership levels, I see 5 different types of membership - Strategic, Enterprise, Solutions, Participant and Committer - do these levels at all relate to the Influencer or Participant membership? I can't find any public documentation on this, I can find a definition of what Influencer and Participant members are:
The missing document that defines these terms is the Jakarta EE charter: https://www.eclipse.org/org/workinggroups/jakarta_ee_charter.php
At the moment there are no Influencer Members. All participants are either Strategic, Participant or Committer.

But I can't see anything saying how someone or a company becomes either a Influencer or a Participant member - there's instructions for general "membership", but not specific to these levels. And I can see on that page that my company (Lightbend) is a Participant member, but the only membership level that I recall when we went through the process of joining Eclipse was Solutions member, I don't recall anything ever being said about being a participant member. What makes us a participant member? Who decided that? And who are the influencer members?

When you sent the email saying you were joining the working group, you became a Participant Member based on your Solutions Membership in the EF. Sorry this was not made clearer.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

James

All,

We are announcing that nominations are now being accepted for the elected positions of the Jakarta EE Working Group committees. The open positions are listed below.  Please see the working group charter for more details.

The nomination period will remain open through May 1 at 3:00 PM EDT.

Nominations may be sent to elections@xxxxxxxxxxx.  All are encouraged to consider nominating someone, and self nominations are welcome.

As a reminder, Participant and Influencer members are corporate members that have chosen to participate in the working group at these respective membership levels.  Committer members are those committers on EE4J projects that are also members; this would be by virtue of a) the company for which they work is a member, or b) they completed the Membership Application and Agreement as an individual.  For more information about membership levels, including Committer membership, please see here.

As a reminder, representatives of the Strategic members have already been appointed by their respective companies to these committees.

Elections will begin on May 6.

Steering Committee
- two (2) Influencer member representatives
- one (1) Participant member representative
- one (1) Committer member representative.

Specification Committee
- two (2) Influencer member representatives
- one (1) Participant member representative
- one (1) Committer member representative.

Marketing and Brand Committee
- two (2) Influencer member representatives

Subject: Election process and schedule for Jakarta EE working group committees
Date: April 9, 2018 at 10:07:41 AM GMT-4
To: Jakarta EE Working Group <jakarta.ee-wg@xxxxxxxxxxx>

All,

The Jakarta EE Working Group charter [1] identifies three key committees to drive the various facets of the working group for which there are elected positions to be filled: the Steering Committee, the Specification Committee, and the Marketing and Brand Committee. The elected positions are to represent each of the Influencer Members, Participant Members, and Committer Members.

Through this email, we are announcing that the Foundation will hold elections on behalf of the working group using the proposed timetable listed below.  FYI, this mimics the process used by other working groups as well as the process used by the Eclipse Foundation itself for filling the elected positions on our Board.

All are encouraged to consider nominating someone for the positions, and self-nominations are welcome. The period for nominations is April 23 - May 1. Nominations may be sent to elections@xxxxxxxxxxx.

Once nominations are closed, we will inform all working group members of the candidates, and will distribute ballots via email.  The election process will follow the Eclipse “Single Transferable Vote” method, as defined in the Eclipse Bylaws [2].

The winning candidates will be announced on this mailing list immediately after the elections are concluded.

Please be aware that the April - May timeframe has been chosen to maximize the opportunity for new members in each of the eligible classes to consider participating in the committee process.  Given many of the strategic members have already put forward their nominees for these committees, the committees may hold initial meetings prior to the completion of the May elections. This is consistent with the Eclipse by-laws and the working group charter, and will allow initial work to begin prior to having a full complement of committee members.

Election Schedule
Nomination period:  April 23 - May 1 (self nominations are welcome)
Election period:  May 6 - May 13
Winning candidates announced:  May 14

The following positions will be filled as part of this election:

Steering Committee
Two seats allocated for Influencer Members
One seat allocated for Participant Members
One seat allocated for Committer Members

Specification Committee
Two seats allocated for Influencer Members
One seat allocated for Participant Members
One seat allocated for Committer Members

Marketing and Brand Committee
Two seats allocated for Influencer Members
One seat allocated for Participant Members
One seat allocated for Committer Members
