Re: [jakarta.ee-spec.committee] JNoSQL Specification

Bill,

Apologies for not responding to this beforehand.

Assuming "Jakarta" is a trademark of the Eclipse Foundation, will it be

For example, will the jakarta.* package namespace only be allowed for
Eclipse projects that have entered the Eclipse Foundation Specification
Process, as suggested in today's meeting?

Yes. That is certainly the intent.

I would point out that this is already somewhat taken care of by the existing trademark policy at the Eclipse Foundation which states:
Use of the 'jakarta', 'ee.jakarta', or 'org.jakarta' namespaces is not permitted unless authorized in advance in writing by Eclipse.
I believe that the the namespace guidelines we draft as part of the Spec Process will fulfill the requirement to "...authorized in advance in writing by Eclipse."

If anyone thinks that this approach is an issue, let's discuss on today's call.

If so, then jakarta.nosql seems likely to be approved for use by the
JNoSQL Specification Project, once it is submitted and approved, but
I wouldn't expect the JNoSQL project to begin using it before that point.

Yes, exactly.

Of course, the Eclipse Foundation can define different rules for the use
of the Jakarta trademark, in which case this might be allowed now per the
rules, or it could be allowed now as a special case. In any case, it would
be good to know what the rules are, and whether this is being handled
according to the rules or as an exception.

We should discuss how comfortable we are in allowing the Jakarta NoSQL Specification Project to get started sooner than later. There are definitely pros and cons.

All,

Further to our call today, Otávio has agreed that he would be very happy to have
JNoSQL be the first project proposed under the new Jakarta EE spec process. He
has asked if we would (informally of course) be willing to designate
jakarta.nosql as the namespace for this specification. It seems fine to me.
