Here's what I like about you, Werner. I don't see a ton of PRs from you, but you're at least there and willing to participate. In many cases you're the only one and there would be dead silence. I respect that.
I'd happily take anyone on the spec lists. If we can get them subscribed, we stand a better chance of pulling them in and lighting a fire under them. If they come in for the buzzwords, I'm ok with that.
If people come in unprepared, unexperienced and unconfident, it means we've done something right. We created an amazing community that makes them feel safe enough to say "what the heck, I'll do it" and jump in.
There are 808 people on this list. I wonder how we can use this advantage to push people to the specifications. Also, how can we get more participation here?
If you are one of the 800+ silent people on this list, what can we do to make it easier for you to get involved?

So a question is, how can we get people who are passionate and qualified to help some specs instead of those who subscribe to every single one just to brush up their resume with a few buzzwords? It's also quality over quantity, you probably know the problem being in too many specs or projects, unable to equally contribute to all of them?;-/
Let's get on the topic of how to get more people onto the specification project lists. If you have any ideas there, that'd be fabulous.
Is there something we as a community can do to drive participation?
David,
I think next time it's better to sort all of those issues and questions out in the Marketing Committee before creating false expectations and confusion in other places like this list.
Let me jump in and remind everyone this is a nascent idea, nothing is in production, printed or in any way shipped and refocus this thread. If there are trademark violations in the proposed design, let's let the Marketing Committee deal with it.
Back on the main idea which is relevant for this list. The overall goal is to get list participation way up on our specification projects. We bootstrapped our lists and specification projects with a handful of people. Some projects have taken off like Jakarta Rest which has 95 subscribers, but most are still on the 20-50 range.
So the primary motivator is getting that list participation up so we can make a big jump in the bootstrapping process and increase the health and diversity of our specification projects overall.
The basic idea:
- Put together a simple page of all specification lists for easy subscription - Promote that page (a sticker is just one way) - Track list subscription numbers to see how we're doing and measure progress
When the sticker idea came up, conferences were still happening. They are not now happening. We probably need to come up with better ideas on how to get the lists page in front of people.
Is there something we can all do as a community to help drive this link in front of people?
-David
