Re: [ide-dev] Highlights for 2020-12 landing page

Thanks for the inputs, Jonah. I've added Extended Linux aarch64 support to the list.

The landing page is created by the Eclipse Foundation Web team and they would use the listed items for the feature highlights.
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=568797 tracks 2020-12 landing page work - adding it here incase someone want to provide any feedback.

Hi Lakshmi,

That is great. Thanks for adding the new IDE package to the list.

In the 2020-09 release aarch support was mentioned. That support has been extended to all the EPP packages now have aarch downloads for 2020-12, so this could be worth mentioning.

PS The title of https://www.eclipse.org/eclipseide/2020-09/ says 2020-06 - not sure where to file a bugzilla on that, so I did it on the website component of Community: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=569412

Thanks,
Jonah

Thanks for your inputs, Mickael, Holger.

Based on the comments, I'll update the entries and add these 2 new entries to the list:

New IDE Package

A new “Eclipse IDE for Embedded C/C++ Developers" package targeting ARM and RISC-V projects is now available.

Extensible Generic Unit Test view

New Generic Unit Test view allows extenders like Eclipse Corrosion to easily add support for test execution reporting for any test engine.

Please let me know if any changes are required.

@Holger, the information on your GitHub link is very detailed and well documented. I don't think anything was missed. :)

Hi Lakshmi,

Thanks for sharing.

In my view, the top 5 of the 2020-12 release:

1. Built-in Java 15 support ("built-in" since in 2020-09 Java 15 was
already available via the Marketplace; if I understand it correctly,
when using Maven or Gradle, JUnit 5.7 behaves in 2020-12 exactly the
same as it did in 2020-09)

2. Java 15 included: the two most popular IDE packages, "Eclipse IDE for
Java Developers" and "Eclipse IDE for Enterprise Java Developers", are
shipped with Java 15 now (thanks to JustJ)

3. New IDE package: "Eclipse IDE for Embedded C/C++ Developers"
targeting ARM and RISC-V (this increases the total number of provided
IDE packages to 14)

4. Java IDE with 25 new clean-up functions (can be automatically applied
on save as so-called "Save Actions" or manually on one or more source files)

5. New "System" theme for Windows, Linux and macOS which is not enabled
by default and improved "Light" theme for macOS

I am currently working on my next Eclipse Java IDE improvements video.
Please tell me if I have something missed or wrong:
