BTW, quick question. What do you call the minor releases, especially the one that happens in February, e.g. would the one next February be 2016.3, even though it's February 2017? I know the Planning Council will ask that question.

I agree that the release year is probably the simplest and most efficient name we can provide. There are a lot of existing very successful software (the main one I have in mind being Microsoft Office) that have adopted this convention and I don't think it has ever been an issue for their users or editors.

Is there a bug to track this suggestion?
