As a consumer of
Higgins, declaring a focus on Information Cards doesn't reflect what
Higgins means to me (and the broader community Higgins can serve).
While Information Cards are a major aspect of Higgins, the ALF project consumes
very useful Higgins components (STS, CPs, IdAS)
without leveraging Information Cards at all, at least at the
moment.. My sense is that associating Higgins with Information Cards too
strongly will pigeon-hole the project to that niche of the Identity space where
the where a human user is in the loop. I would prefer to see Higgins
focus on Identity in general, with a focus on bridging/unifying/abstracting the
many existing identity schemes and mechanisms - for both headless and human-in
the loop uses. I believe that is where Higgins can offer the most value to
the community, and while Information Cards are a useful aspect for human-facing
negotiations about identity and credentials, as a consumer, as a consumer,
I would like to see a broader focus on Identity in general.

Brian

I think
if we came up with text that is concise enough that people are willing to read
it, and is accurate and not confusing or too abstract, the group would want to
change to that.

I beg to differ that information
cards are the unifying metaphor as that is assuming that there is an identity
selector and that is not the underlying component in this project (it was and
still and add-on). I think its also important that this project not get confused
with Information Card Foundation as it seems that this is where it is
heading.
I looked back through the meeting minutes and there is very
little discussion about these pages and the direction that this project is
heading.

+1. Tony, in all fairness,
this topic has received a lot of discussion both on the list and on the weekly
calls over the past few months. Numerous links were sent to the draft
pages/graphics. Yes, Higgins is about
much more than information cards. But information cards are the unifying
metaphor for a user’s interaction with Higgins components, so its a pretty good
candidate, at least for the present, as the lead metaphor for the outside world
to wrap their head around what Higgins is about and the types of problems it is
solving. I suspect we will be
constantly iterating on Higgins positioning as the project keeps evolving and
deployments increase. =Drummond

[higgins-dev] Higgins Project in General I brought this up on the last dev call and also on the
IRC.
The problem is that
it's really hard to describe *what it really is* without either: a) being so wordy that no one
wants to read it b) being so
abstract that no one understands it
so I think the authors went for the most
understandable, accessible language at the cost of hiding all that Higgins
is.
BTW, no one has
reverted my awesome IRC topic. It still says "Higgins - Open Source Uber
Identity Framework" :)

home page, I would say I would strongly disagree that this page accurately
represents the project, as we are not all about information cards at all, that
is one subset component. It seems that changes are made w/o consulting the
project team which is very discouraging. Can we go back to the old home page
which more accurately reflects the project goals so that folks visiting the site
have a better idea what Higgins is all about and don't get the idea that this is
just about Information Cards (as its not).
