Re: [epp-dev] Combining C/C++ IDEs (was: Juno M3...)

If I remember correctly, the problem with the LinuxTools packages was caused by the product configuration that went into the p2 metadata without an appropriate filter for non-Linux platforms. If my assumption is correct, this would be solved by merging those two into one anyway. The only difference would be that some feature dependencies have Linux-specific filters, but this should be solvable.

The main question to me is: How do we communicate to the end-users that they get a different content depending on the operating system that they are using. This should be very transparent to them, otherwise they expect functions in the Windows package that are only available in the Linux package.

I worry about how reliable those things are but if they are fixed, then that would be great. I can't remember the exact issue. Was it an issue with how the EPP package works or was it a p2 problem?

The other side of issue is whether we want to keep the Linux Developer branding on it. Part of that is wondering whether Linux developers are picking the base C/C++ developer because it's higher in the list and they see it first, in which case they were fine without the Linux branding. Need a product manager to decide that I guess :).
