Re: [eclipsecon-na-program-committee] Great talks at EclipseCon Europe

Eike, what did you like about the speaker pitches?
Sorry, I must have overlooked this question; not intentionally!
Personally I liked the idea of the pitches A LOT when they first came up in France. And there they seemed like a major
success, too. I think in average they were even funnier there.
I don't remember exactly how long the individual pitches were supposed to be in Ludwigsburg. 10 seconds? I found that
was just too short to get over a reasonable (or maybe even funny) message. Because the speakers queued up near the
microphone, and Ralph, Mike and maybe others were lingering there, too, the theater stage must have been a very crowded
and a little unorganized place (not exactly sure, I was in that crowd).
In France it was different. All speaker were queued up in the dark, ten meters away from the stage. Only one speaker (or
team) had the stage. When that speaker was done she pitched (that's why it's called speaker pitches?) a small ball to
the next speaker, who was already silently approaching the stage. Of course, the stage was completely different from the
huge theater in Ludwigsburg, and there were less tracks, but I think it made a much more organized impression and for
sure it was very well received. You should probably ask Gael for another opinion.
I guess there shouldn't be too many pitches at the same time so it doesn't become boring after a while. Not sure how to
achieve that on the traditional, somewhat bigger EclipseCons. But I hope that we'll want them again and find ways to
make them interesting for the audience.
Cheers

I am curious what others thought of the speaker pitches? I personally felt
they were too long and didn't add much value. During the pitches I saw a
number of people leave and lots of people talking.

Maybe I'm just unlucky but I thoroughly enjoyed having access to
refreshments outside the normal breaks. Usually in US all refreshments
are removed or just runs out before I get to them ;)
With respect to talks - I didn't get to see that many but if there was
one thing I missed was a plan overview to remember where things were
at. The monitors showed it but you had to wait for cycling through.
Yeah, and the speaker pitches (which I hope we'll have in NA, too) spanned
the entire schedule width, so it was impossible to know where they are.

If each poster would on its back have a plan overview my life would
have been much easier the first two days ;)

Also, please make sure you invite any speakers at ECE that gave a
great talk. We certainly don't want a lot of repeat talks but having
some of the best from ECE at EclipseCon NA is always a good idea.
