Streamline of processed is always good. :)

I think that the signup in the past was a good thing to measure the 
interest in a particular topic. However, it also spreads the feeling 
that someone can't go to a bof because he didn't sign up. Also, I know 
of discussions in the past that signups were used as a decisions maker 
for going to the bof or the bar...

So +1 for dropping signups.
