Re: [eclipsecon-na-program-committee] Preparing for Monday

Actually I sat together with Andres and we looked at how Griffon could add support for Eclipse4. I gave him some pointer how he could use Griffon to generate the Eclipse4 application model and the logic and Andres was planning to work on this integration. I also suggested that he issue a talk about this upcoming integration as I like to extend the reach of the Eclipse community.

So I think your perception is incorrect, this talk is IMHO about bringing Griffon and Eclipse4 together. Andres currently also works for a client which does an Eclipse4 RCP implementation that is why he is looking into this extension.

But I ask him to update his talk description to make the target of this talk clearer.

Best regards, Lars

I also tend to upvote topics which would extend our reach as Eclipse community, for example the "Griffon and Eclipse 4" talk (http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/tale-2-platforms-eclipse4-and-griffon) would connect us with the Griffon and Groovy community.

AFAIK Griffon is a direct competitor to E4, so people would either use Griffon or E4, correct?
He mentions that e4 is for RCP apps while Griffon is for desktop apps, but isn't that the same? What's the difference?

So if I'm correct with that, the abstract sounds a bit like a straw-man to place a Griffon talk at an EclipseCon.
Also if it's meant to be a comparison (which is not clear to me) i think the speaker is not the best candidate to do an objective comparison as he's one of the authors of Griffon.

I personally think that competition is good and the e4 community might learn something from Griffon. Also having both covered at the conference might attract people who are about to make a decision for one or the other.
And finally the speaker is good and well-known. So +1 from my side, but if I'm right I think he should update the title and abstract to make it clear that Griffon is a competitor to e4 and that the talk is about Griffon.

Sven
