Re: [eclipse.org-planning-council] Please review my notes from Wednesday's call (from 8/5, 12 Noon)

I think we still have to have the discussion on cadence for post Neon.0.

I hope we don’t have the status quo of 3-5-4 month releases at that point. (Though this 3 month over the summer release kills me. I can never get any new feature work done in time). We have informally on the table a 6-6 and a 3-3-3-3 plan with the latter seeming popular (and I guess some people like the 1-1-1-1-1… plan). And I think there’s an open question on when we’d expect the mid-year release to be, I.e. How close to the holiday season, or would we pivot to be more April/October like Ubuntu, etc…

I guess the question is would you release Neon.1 on exactly the same day as Java 9? And as that day moves would we move the Neon.1 release? Can we be early or late?

BTW, +1 for lining up, but want to make sure we resolve the whole cadence issue before then.

Doug.

The release date for Java 9 (9/22/16) aligns well with what I figure will be the release date for Neon.1.

Including Java 9 support with Neon.1 is, I believe, critical.

With this mind, I think that we should anticipate a need to be flexible with the Neon.1 date to accommodate any changes in the delivery date for Java 9. I expect that we will have enough lead time to adjust appropriately.

Please let this note serve as a first crack at socializing the notion.

Thanks,

Wayne

I've summarized our discussion and decisions made with respect to the naming of the September and February release.
Namely, the update releases will be named Mars.1 and Mars.2.

See

for my notes, and correct any errors, omissions, or clarify anything that's nonsensical.

I will use those notes and the current Policy FAQ to update the Plan Documents (Mars/Simultaneous Release Planand Neon/Simultaneous Release Plan), as discussed in the meeting.

If no issues or objections raised, I will announce on Cross-Project list on Monday afternoon.

Thanks,
