Re: [eclipse.org-planning-council] Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] RC1 Status? Please reply to the list with your status and bits

Hi,

I sent this note to Bjorn, but his bounce says he's gone till May 1.  Lucky him.  I wonder which phantom started this note chain? ;-)  Just so I can be the pot calling the kettle black, I decided to send this note to the list so that I can beg others as well for support for automation...

-----------------------------------------

Bjorn,

This is the first I've heard of Eclipse RC1a.  What happened?

I'd very much prefer that what we publish is actually built and tested against the prerequisites with which they are published, but being a small team, it's increasing difficult to deal with the overhead of tracking all this.  Just dealing with the huge volume of mail generated by this one topic of Callisto builds alone seems onerous.   Without automation this is likely to become even more chaotic in the coming months, and when tempers fray (which is already apparent) things will really degrade.

Even the notes I send get bounced by one list (cross-project-issues-dev-owner@xxxxxxxxxxx) because I haven't subscribed and the last thing I want or need is yet more notes for yet more reasons.  And even when subscribed, the notes I send are sent back to me, which I suppose is reassuring, but also increases the volume further.   Right now, one note sent and two come back... I really would prefer not to have my reader full of notes on just this one topic.  (It's frustrating enough when there are various Eclipse planning meetings to have a long and public exchange of endless notes on who can come, who won't make it, and why, but this Callisto build thing looks like a formula for generating mail volume like I've never seen before.)

If everything were working well right now, would we still need this exchange of notes, or is it possible, with the current infrastructure, that this build status information is simply available on some page anyone can visit when they need the information?  It's much easier for us to publish a file somewhere automatically than to deal with all these notes...

Update from the Platform project:

1.
Have you finished your RC1 bits?
The platform update site is ready with RC1a.

2.
If not, when do you expect to finish them?
Actual build page for RC1a will be promoted tomorrow, waiting for performance tests to finish.

3.
If you're waiting for another project, which one(s)?
no

4.
Have you placed those bits in your update site?
yes

5.
Have you updated the features.xml file in the Callisto CVS directory?
yes

6.
Are you ready for RC1 to be declared?
Friday morning so the platform RC1a build page and update site match up.

Also, I thought we were going to wait 24 hours to allow the mirrors to sync the Callisto content before we declared RC1?

[cross-project-issues-dev] RC1 Status? Please reply to the list        with your status and bits

Callisto People,
I'm confused about our status and I think probably other people are too so could everyone send an email to the list with your RC1 status information:

1.
Have you finished your RC1 bits?
2.
If not, when do you expect to finish them?
3.
If you're waiting for another project, which one(s)?
4.
Have you placed those bits in your update site?
5.
Have you updated the features.xml file in the Callisto CVS directory?
6.
Are you ready for RC1 to be declared?
I know that some of you have already sent your status to the list, but if you could do so again, that would be much appreciated.  Thank you.

I am out of town for the next week, so David Williams graciously agreed to gather the information and potentially bug you if you haven't sent an email to the list, etc.

Thanks,
Bjorn
