Hey,
thanks for going through the program. And fixing a mistake I made...
I dont really agree that Jnario is "not too Eclipse specific". Its a customer (BMW) demonstrating the successful use of Eclipse technology in very inspiring way. How more Eclipse specific can you get if you are not an Eclipse project itself ?
I remember that Eike Stepper had hilarious talks in the past. He always attracts a large crowd. I am not a modeling person, but I like him very much as a speaker and think that an extended talk slot is in good hands with him.
I dont want to vote on my own talk. However I'd say that it makes more sense to reject my extended talk then to shorten it . A standard talk on "Desktop apps on tablets" will suck big time. My other "excuse" is that I dont have 3 talks but I have 1 talk and 2 talks together with other people which will contribute most of the content. The Extended talk is mostly supplied by Miriam Dobner who does interaction design and the Riena on e4 talk is mostly done by Heiko Barth.
But I understand this "how many talks does a speaker gets" thing. I can sacrifice the "Why is OSGI dynamic talk" if that allows me to keep the extended talk and makes everybody feel more comfortable. Its a my yearly rant anyway :-) (last year it was Git, this year OSGi)
But I welcome any suggestion to get more talks into the program or more speaker.
I find it a little unfortunate that the talks in your list are from the top 20%. So we are basically trading good content for potentially bad(=not so good) content.
I think also taking one Itemis talk and one Sebastian talk is an option. Although his topics are really interesting. :-)
So in my math we have the
- the recovered time due to error 0,5
- reject Why is OSGi dynamic 0,5 (same number if you shorten my extended talk)
- itemis 0,5
- sebastian 0,5
4 additional standard talk slots. And then there is still the 2 directors choices :-)
What do other pc members think ? Please speak up. What do you think about shortening more extended talk slots ?
Please mark talks in the google doc spreadsheet in the column "reconsider" that you want to reconsider (one way or another) again in the next call. (Also if you like to shorten them)

Hey!
#1:
I fixed the proposed length of this talk:
Taking EMF to the Mobile Web - EMFT Texo on HTML5 (currently line 63), it had a proposed lenth of 1, but "shorten" set to "yes", so I changed it to a length of 0.5.
#2:
And I would like to propose to shorten the following talks to a standard
talk:
- Jnario - BDD for Java (12): interesting, but not too Eclipse specific... I would not put am emphasis on this one
- Desktop apps on tablet devices (30): very interesting, but nothing I would put a spot on at the conference with an extended talk - sorry Christian... ;-)
- Now that I've Got a Model - Where's My Application? (32): definitely awesome talk, but I would prefer it as a short talk
#3:
We have 8 (!) talks from itemis in the accepted list. Nothing against
the folks from itemis, they are doing great stuff. But eight talks
sounds a bit too much.
#4:
We have even three talks from Sebastian Zarnekow and three from
Christian Do we wanna have three talks from the same speaker, when we
reject talks from other people that end up having zero talks then at the
same time? I like the idea of having great content from great speakers
(and the two people I mention definitely belong to that group, I think),
but I don't feel too good about having three talks from the same speaker
and rejecting other (also good stuff) from others completely.
Summing this up, we could end up with:
- 3 more standard talks from shortening extended talks
- 1 more standard talk from shortening the itemis talks to 6 (minus one
items, minus one from Sebastian, see next point)
- 2 more standard talks from reducing Christian and Sebastian to 2 talks
each
This would give us 6(!) more standard talks, would extend the acceptance
up to line 111 (including). This would also include the talk from Oscar
Slotosch that Ralph would like to see in the program.
What do you think?
Cheers,
-Martin
