RE: [eclipse.org-eclipsecon-program-committee] Organizing the Panels

Title: RE: [eclipse.org-eclipsecon-program-committee] Organizing the Panels

RE: Making Money from Open Source

Still think it is a good idea, but I have been too busy trying to make money from open source to put together any talks about it.  If someone is passionate about this, take it away.  Otherwise given the lack of available time, I think this one should be deferred.

Starter material for the call. Each Panel must have:

1.  Someone who is responsible for it. This persons name

will appear as the 'author' in the submission system.

2.  A Moderator - this person is to be listed in the 'abstract'

part in the submission system

3.  Confirmed Participants - these people are to be list in

the 'abstract' part of the submission system.

4. Topics of conversation - the scope and charter type of

thing.

1209 - Ask The AC Panel

Agreed that this one should go ahead?  Wayne gets to be

the Man In Charge. Needs to choose moderator and update

entry in submission system. Wayne - this is because you

are on the PC and Martin isn't.

1211 - Eclipse for Mobile Application Development Panel

Agreed that this one should go ahead? Eric is moderator, but

I suggest that Doug be Man In Charge. Need to add participants

and update submission.

1237 - Application Models for OSGi BoF

This is a BoF, more on those separately

1347 - The Coalition Against EMF

I think that this should be rolled in with the Modeling Panel, myself,

to make the discussion a bit more interesting. So - proposal to drop

this one.

1441 - Developing at Eclipse

Agreed that this one should go ahead? Wayne is M-i-C. Needs

moderator, participants and submission system update.

1442 - Build and Continuous Integration with Eclipse

Agreed that this one should go ahead? I think this one is a

must-have. Wayne is M-i-C again. Moderator required, with

martial arts skills, also participants and update of submission

system.

1455 - Scraping the Barnacles - What parts of Eclipse...

I think this one belongs to the Developing at Eclipse Panel

rather than having its own dedicated one. M-i-C of that

panel should contact Shaun for someone to come on

board - discuss.

1456 - I Love This Project, But Where Are The Docs?

I love docs, but this reads more like BoF material than

panel material. What do you think?

1525 - Testing and TDD - the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I'm not sure if Dave Carver suggested dropping this one

in a recent mail - let's discuss.

1528 - Eclipse Modeling Panel

I think we should definitely have a modeling panel. I suggest

that we mix in someone from 1347 so that it's not just all

unicorns pooping rainbows (btw same goes for all other

panels, I'm not singling out modeling for this). Bernd is

M-i-C : need moderator, participants and update to the

submission system.

NaN  - The Future of App Servers -> not in the system

I propose we take this on - we have some promises of

participation from SAP and RedHat. More would be nice

and there was talk previously of title changes. Need a

M-i-C - so I'm soliciting volunteers.

NaN  - Future Timelines for Open Source -> not in the system

Working title only. Would like to get some analyst wonks

and journos that spend time on this stuff to answer questions

to a crowd. Could be useful since these guys may be on-site

already and ergo cheap. We are short on space so need to

discuss.

NaN  - Making Money from Open Source -> not in the system

This might be interesting - nontech focus, but the kind of

discussion that is useful for all attendees. Scott was the one

that suggested this, so he gets the M-i-C. Let's discuss.

NaN  - Eclipse for the Future - e4 -> not in the system

I think maybe this would be better served by a BoF, to be

honest.

NaN  - OSGi on the Server -> could be 1237?

Same goes for this - better as a BoF, I think, because it

will actively discuss solutions.

On the call, lets go through these. I'll then summarize to the

list for those that can't make the call time.

cheers
