All,
We reached an agreement that we are going to do go through the submissions
next week and pick the top 5 talks for early inclusion. I suggested a way to
monitor/track this, so I got assigned to communicating that.
Next week we will review the talks that we have agreed to
review. If a talk stands out as a particularly good talk, that you think will
be a GREAT talk mark it with the pc_top_5 tag. Please use the “private”
comments to make PC only comments about why you think this talk is top 5, or if
you disagree with the talk being top 5.
At the end of the week, we will all go through the pc_top_5
nominated talks and use the private comments to vote on the ones we like (+1
only). If you want to see all the talks enter use this link
or enter this term in the search window
talk_tag~'pc_top_5’
My assumption is that we will all review all of the pc_top_5
talks, even if they are not in your personal area of expertise.
Donald, could you provide the deadline dates for this?
Scott

EclipseCon Submissions Promotions
I agree it’s tight, but people seem to act better with deadlines
(hence, let’s have 2 J). If we start promoting this tomorrow AM, then it’s
9 full days spanning a weekend for the short deadline – I think that’s pretty
reasonable…
BTW - I just checked with Gabe and we don’t track the
submission date, but he’s going to try to get a better picture another way
(stay tuned). Anecdotally, more than half the submissions come in the
last day, and a much larger % come in the last week.
It’s always that final week drum-beat that gets the submissions
in, hence the idea noted below.

My (quick)
opinion is this would have been a great idea if executed earlier. But, as it is
... just a weeks notice seems a little short (almost unfair), and the deadline
is only a week earlier.
But I'm not
opposed if others think it worth while. Definitely good idea for next year.
Thanks.

PC,
Sorry for the
urgency, hoping to have this debated with the group today so that we can go an
implement ASAP if there is consensus.
What would
you think about having a promotion for EclipseCon submissions that goes like
this:
-
Submit a talk by December 10th to be
eligible.
-
The program committee will pick 5 great talks from
those submitted by December 10th , (we’ll do this via email on the
11th and over the weekend if necessary)
-
We will announce those 5 great talks on December 14th
-
A speaker from each of the chosen talks will get a
cool piece of schwag – i.e., a polo shirt, sweater or the like.
I don’t think
we’d call this a contest – just a way to encourage earlier submissions, and to
show off how good the content is going to be (i.e., try to raise the bar for
the hockey stick submitters)
