Re: [eclipse.org-eclipsecon-program-committee] Yes / No Polling Analysis

I agree, removing the bad talks is what we should work at ...
Some more suggestions:
1. After the track makes its initial selection, assign persons from
other tracks to review them. These persons are more
independent, and
will pay closer attention to non-functional areas. To
prevent
overload and ensure all events are reviewed this process
needs to be managed.
I.e. 3 reviewers per event, centrally assigned. I think we
would need
some score card on different criteria with a minimum for
each.
2. Ask the submitter for an audio sample, or interview them on Skype
and attach this to the record. Would also be nice if they
could
attach a previous presentation. This will allow us to filter the
mumblers and people that unfortunately do not master sufficient
English.
3. Just as JavaOne, provide coaching during the conference
4. Have a tutorial: "Presenting at EclipseCon", given by a real
professional.
I will participate!
Kind regards,
Peter Kriens

The negative feedback we get each year is about the quality of the
talks: too much reading from slides, too much mumbling, a ten minute
talk stretched for an hour, etc. I suspect that you don't notice
those bad talks because you have enough local knowledge to avoid the
bad speakers. Our goal this year is to make it possible for the
inexpert attendees to do the same by significantly lowering the
percentage of bad talks.

I must admit I do have the inkling that we seem to be trying to
optimize something that is clearly not a problem in the previous
EclipseCons? So far EclipseCon talks are very high on my toplist.
