[eclipse.org-eclipsecon-program-committee] Idea for next year - game development
|
I noticed that the Game Developer's conference (gdconf.com) was in the same town at the same time as EclipseCon this year. As a former game developer who used to go to this conference religiously, and who had to use custom tools and uneven IDEs like CodeWarrior, I can see that Eclipse has the potential to revolutionize the game developer's toolbox. So if this confluence happens again, the Foundation should take advantage of it with some kind of cross-conference activities, like maybe an Eclipse day at GDConf, or a Game development day or track at EclipseCon.
There's mobile games of course, but I'm thinking mainly of PC and Console game tool consolidation (mostly C/C++). And then, the next level up the stack would be graphic design tools. Wouldn't it be interesting to have, say, Maya integrated with Eclipse? Then audio tools, scripting and AI, resource management (a huge problem with big games), testing, performance analysis, and even installation and deploys. Beyond tools, there's back end game servers written using OSGi.
What do you think?
If you know of any activities already going on with Eclipse and gaming, let me know and if I get enough info I'll write an article about it.
