Re: [eclipse.org-committers] Upcoming Termination Reviews - Your feedback is welcome

Dear Gireesh,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate your input and have included it in our ongoing process review.

An important step in the project termination process is reaching out to the project community to better understand the project's impact and usage. This is one of the main reasons we send these communications.

We are currently preparing a more detailed post to clarify the process. In the meantime, I'd like to emphasize that terminating a project does not mean deleting its source code or making it unavailable. Rather, the project is archived and is no longer actively maintained or updated.

If members of the user community are interested in reviving the project, we are always open to exploring that possibility. However, we would need a committed project team willing to take responsibility for its ongoing maintenance and development.

I hope this helps clarify the process, and thank you again for your feedback.

Kind regards,
Carmen Delgado

thank you for the invitation to feedback. i never knew about this termination review process! i am not a committer on the listed projects, but would like to offer some input in general:

while projects are identified for termination based on ativity status in the repo, i would request a few other factors too:

* downstream usage: dependencies in maven central and marketplace installs might indicate consumption volume,  commit history doesn't truly reflect the usage IMO.

* backlog and responsiveness: open issues, PRs and discussion on those may indicate continued interest in the project.

* ecosystem outreach: please consider identifying and polling consumers directly, committers may not know the usage pattern comprehensively.

in addition to this, will EMO consider interested non-committer contributors / developers to onboard the project and continue maintain those? are there any criteria for becoming a committer in an inactive project?

thanks!
Gireesh

Dear Eclipse Committers,

As part of our regular project activity monitoring, we have this list of projects as inactive based on their recent commit history and project team activity:

We would appreciate any feedback you could share on the project's current status. If we do not receive any additional information, we will proceed with the scheduled terminations in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your time and cooperation.

Kind regards,

EMO Team
