Re: [eclipse-dev] Eclipse project plan updated

I'll add a clarifying comment about this in the plan document, but I'd like to avoid using the Helios RC1+0 notation here. First, it's a notation that only really has meaning to insiders of the simultaneous release process. Second, they don't always correspond exactly to our build dates. For example during simultaneous service releases, we produced our RC2 on a Wednesday but the Galileo SR2 RC2+0 date was a Monday. So, although 3.6 RC1 is on the same date as Helios RC1+0, it's not necessarily always the case that our release dates match the date we make a contribution to the simultaneous release. In any case, I'll try to find a way of making this clear in the plan without confusing people even more!

Yes, that makes sense, but perhaps your list of release milestones should say 3.6RC1+0, 3.6RC2+0, rather than 3.6RC1, 3.6RC2, etc? I don't see +0 referred to anywhere.

Cheers,
Greg

Hi Greg,

They are both correct!  The Eclipse top-level project belongs to the "Helios+0" group, so our milestone and RC dates match the RC1+0, RC2+0, etc, dates on the Helios simultaneous release plan. Our project has to finish each milestone a few days earlier to give the other projects time to do final integration and testing, so our finish dates are what show up in our individual project plan.

Hope that clarifies,

John

John,

The release milestone dates on the plan are out of sync with the Helios wiki page (
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Helios/Simultaneous_Release_Plan). Which are the correct ones?

Thanks,
Greg

A new update of the Eclipse project Helios plan is now available:

This plan update contains only one change: moving the Java 7 plan item to the deferred state. In order to align our schedule with the delayed official Java 7 appearance and due to lack of publicly available specifications (including lack of a Java 7 JSR), we have decided to move the Java 7 development work to a separate branch and decouple it from the 3.6 release. In that branch we will continue to develop the Java 7 features as they become publicly accessible. We will deliver separate updates for the official builds in order to provide early access to Java 7 features. More details will be sent out on this list when these separate downloads become available.
