Hmmm, crazy - i use the downloaded binary version of eclipse and
unzipped it into "/opt" as root. When i start it as a user without
"-data" parameter, it automatically creates a "workspace" directory in
my home.

Maybe? I tried it with SuSE 8.1 and Gentoo (i'm not using RPM or portage
for eclipse) and it works without a wrapper script. But i usally have a
wrapper script because i like having the workspace in
"~/Documents/Eclipse".
