I'm wondering whether the TmL project is yet mature enough
for a long talk.
IMHO, participants of a long talk will expect some
technical information on
what the project is doing and how it can be leveraged
right away - they want
to know what's already there and how they can use
it.
it appears to be more of a "what are we going to do" talk,
with a big focus
on gathering community.
No offence meant, but it would appear to me that a BoF
session were more
appropriate for this, plus a short talk
for those things that already exist
(e.g. simulation environment).
When I did the TM talk last year, it was also questioned
whether the project
were mature enough for a long talk already. At that point,
we already had
a first milestone of the RSE code out, and we could talk
about existing
APIs, and we could demo the running RSE. We had about 50
participants
in the talk, quite a few of them saying "well,
interesting", or "thanks for this
great technology". However, over the year, not a lot
participation came from
those folks and the direction we took was the result of the
face-to-face
meetings we had earlier plus our internal
discussions.
This experience also leads me to thinking that the
technology being
presented in a long talk should already be
existing.
sounds very interesting though it is more about MTJ than
TmL. It sounds
very practical such that participants will take some
first-hand experience
and knowldedge with them that they can leverage right
away. Perhaps this
talk would make an excellent Demo, since it addresses USERS
of the
MTJ and EclipseME projects rather than people developing
against the
APIs? - I think I'd love to follow Christian follow a
sample session with these
tools as part of a Demo.

Hi PMC,
Despite the fact we postponed tomorrow’s meeting, I’m
sending you an update on Long Talk submissions for the Embedded/Mobile
track. We have twice as many submissions
as we have slots for. This is where it gets difficult. Please keep
in mind that we’ve accepted Tutorials covering eRCP, MTJ, and TM already as we
begin this discussion. My original spreadsheet looked like this, but
obviously we are free to deviate:

Also keep in mind that our goal is to create as diverse a
program as possible in the Mobile / Embedded / Device Software
space.
I’ve broken down the submissions into the following
categories:
DSDP project talks
3688 –
Gorkem/Mark – “eRCP - Ready for prime time!”
3738 –
Christian – “Tools for Mobile Linux Project: Extending Eclipse into Linux
Mobile Devices”
3755 –
Shigeki – “C++ GUI Builder for Mobile or Embedded devices”
3781 –
Martin – “Target Management: Embedded to Enterprise”
3795 –
Christian – “Eclipse as foundation for J2ME development tools”
User talks
3602 – Jeff
Ricker – “Service Oriented Device Architecture (SODA)” – Some connection to
eRCP
3814 –
Brett Hackleman – “Remote Management of Mobile Embedded Platforms
“
3780 –
Anthony Berent – “Creating an IP-XACT editor to support the use of IP-XACT for
Embedded Debug” – Some connection to DD / TM
Potential business track talks
3770 –
Robert Day – “Bringing embedded and enterprise development closer using
Eclipse”
3813 – Dino
Brusco – “Enabling Seamless Mobility with Eclipse”
I am hopeful we can get at least one of the
business-related talks into the business track, but I’m waiting to hear from
Donald about that. That leaves 8 talks and 5 slots. My preference
is below. 2 long talks by project leads not covered by Tutorials, 3
user-related talked – with 2 of them loosely tying back to DSDP
projects. I want to find out more about the SODA talk though, as it
spans several technical areas. It might belong in another
track.
