Re: [dsdp-pmc] EclipseCon 2007 - Long Talks
|
I am not a member of the PMC, and I am not trying to promote the eRCP
talk but I would like to make some comments.
I see that in Doug's list the two projects that did not have tutorials
are taken to the list. I believe a tutorial and long tutorial can not
server the same purpose.
The audience for a tutorial is limited, and it costs extra. This makes
tutorials hardly suitable for advertising and gathering a community for
your project.
I think PMC decision should not really depend on the number of slots a
project has on the program.

Hi PMC,
Despite the fact we postponed tomorrow’s meeting, I’m sending you an
update on Long Talk submissions for the Embedded/Mobile track. We have
twice as many submissions

as we have slots for. This is where it gets difficult. Please keep in
mind that we’ve accepted Tutorials covering eRCP, MTJ, and TM already
as we begin this discussion. My original spreadsheet looked like this,
but obviously we are free to deviate:
*Long*
*Short*
*Panel / Demo*

*Long Tutorial*
*Short Tutorial*
*Notes*
*DD*

*TM*

Also keep in mind that our goal is to create as diverse a program as
possible in the Mobile / Embedded / Device Software space.
I’ve broken down the submissions into the following categories:
*_DSDP project talks_*
3688 <http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3688> –
Gorkem/Mark – “eRCP - Ready for prime time!”
3738 <http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3738> –
Christian – “Tools for Mobile Linux Project: Extending Eclipse into
Linux Mobile Devices”
3755 <http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3755> –
Shigeki – “C++ GUI Builder for Mobile or Embedded devices”
3781 <http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3781> –
Martin – “Target Management: Embedded to Enterprise”
3795 <http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3795> –
Christian – “Eclipse as foundation for J2ME development tools”
*_User talks_*
3602 <http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3602> – Jeff
Ricker – “Service Oriented Device Architecture (SODA)” – /Some
connection to eRCP/
3814 <http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3814> – Brett
Hackleman – “Remote Management of Mobile Embedded Platforms “
3780 <http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3780> –
Anthony Berent – “Creating an IP-XACT editor to support the use of
IP-XACT for Embedded Debug” – /Some connection to DD / TM/
*_Potential business track talks_*
3770 <http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3770> –
Robert Day – “Bringing embedded and enterprise development closer
using Eclipse”
3813 <http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3813> – Dino
Brusco – “Enabling Seamless Mobility with Eclipse”
I am hopeful we can get at least one of the business-related talks
into the business track, but I’m waiting to hear from Donald about
that. That leaves 8 talks and 5 slots. My preference is below. 2 long
talks by project leads not covered by Tutorials, 3 user-related talked
– with 2 of them loosely tying back to DSDP projects. I want to find
out more about the SODA talk though, as it spans several technical
areas. It might belong in another track.

Let the discussion begin….
