I think I found the bug - see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=338210
It turned out that the Eclipse Platform artifacts.xml in the artifacts.jar
is corrupt. It should be an easy fix and I hope that is everything that
needs to be done.
Thanks, Markus

Perhaps a good test is trying to run the
p2 mirroring tool to copy the “Eclipse” repo to a local site, then try
the update scenario against local + helios staging.
If that works, I’d guess it must be a mirroring
issue and the actual bits are good.
Markus, is this something that you could
test? I don’t have that much experience with the p2 mirroring tool.
Thanks,
Martin

updating from Helios SR1 to SR2
FYI,
I reproduced the problem on Windows 7 32-bit.
-
Install Classic SDK 3.6.1
-
Disable Helios repos, add Staging repos from Markus
-
Help > Check for Updates
-
“Eclipse SDK 3.6.2” is found; press Next, licenses are shown as expected
-
When it starts installing, it terminates with “An error occurred while
collecting…” as sent by Markus
What seems to be missing is pretty much all
new bundles that should be installed.
Another thing I noticed was that taking the
toplevel “Eclipse SDK” Feature (org.eclipse.sdk.ide 3.6.2.M20110210-1200)
and pressing the “More…” button in the UI, the dialog that comes up
says “No copyright information provided”.
Thanks,
Martin

Subject: [cross-project-issues-dev] problems updating from Helios SR1
to SR2
Hi all,
one of my last tests before a release is always the same: I am trying to
update from one version to another. Usually that did work without any problems
in the past and that is why I did it that late in the process.
Unfortunately I had some problems with the EPP packages, but I can reproduce
it with the Classic/SDK - I wasn't able to update this one either.
p2 is complaining that it cannot find some artifacts:
An error occurred while collecting items to be installed
session context was:(profile="" phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Collect,
operand=, action="">
No repository found containing: osgi.bundle,org.eclipse.ant.core,3.2.201.v20110203_r362
No repository found containing: osgi.bundle,org.eclipse.ant.core.source,3.2.201.v20110203_r362
No repository found containing: osgi.bundle,org.eclipse.ant.launching,1.0.1.v20101020_r362
...
(But I checked that they are available!)
In order to reproduce this you need to add the following not yet visible
repositories locations:
http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/3.6/R-3.6.2-201102101200
http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios/201102250900
Platform Linux 64 bit, Eclipse Classic SDK Helios SR1 (3.6.1)
Did I miss something or is this a real error that will hit others (and
not only me)? Are the above repository locations correct?
Thanks,
Markus
