Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] Clarification of repo requirements for projects participating in Helios

Thanks for coming to our defense, Ed, but most of us are used to Doug's hot button reactions. And we love him for it. :) But, yes, Anthony was just providing data, and happened to mention a hot button company name.

So, to be clear, this was a Planning Council requirement, based on consistency, and one of the factors discussed was "are we asking for extra work", and our judgement was "no". We just wanted things to "stay the same" as they had been, and ask projects to not delete things they'd already built.

But, I like your attitude, Ed. Eclipse and especially the Simultaneous Release process is all about making adoption easier and consistent and, as a group, we all benefit from that.

I'm getting the impression that as Eclipse gets larger and more diverse, some things have to be better specified, to keep consistent, instead of just assuming "everyone knows", since that's increasingly not the case, as this example illustrates.

Again, thanks for your help, and thanks to everyone's efforts to make the Simultaneous Release better and better.

Hi Doug

I think that's a bit unfair. If IBM or anyone else has legitimate concerns about a change to deliverables we should respond.

Speaking for MDT/OCL against which this was first raised as a bug, I am happy to make the appropriate one line change to our build procedures when someone tells us what that change should be and when that change is generally thought appropriate/useful.

Hi Team,

I added some information for discussion to
bug 307804 from the IBM team responsible for consuming the repositories produced by the Eclipse teams. Their group has done some extensive investigation, and decided that they cannot use pack2000 for products consuming the Helios release. For this reason they are asking me to make sure any p2 sites I want them to use provide jars.

Cheers...
Anthony
