I wonder if any of the projects out there have some kind of easily
editable files to generate N&N documents from. Sure - we could use HTML,
but editing HTML documents has serious drawbacks (most notably the
mingling of content and representation). I'd best love some kind of
DocBook approach...
In WTP we use an XSL transform driven through Phoenix to create
them. It's not perfect, as the committers still have to write HTML
body content for each item, but the overall layout and styling at
least became consistent
(http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/development/news/). Oddly enough I
still author the XML to point to a transform that produces output
that look exactly like the Eclipse Project's --it's our PHP scripts
that use a different Phoenix-styled XSL.
One question that's been bothering me for a while is that the
Galileo Must Do list under Releng - New & Noteworthy mentions a
corollary that "individual new & noteworthy should be linked in to
the collective New & Noteworthy. " A collective document would
surely be impressive, but where would that be, exactly? Does it
exist? Should we have been building it with each milestone? And
will we have one for the Release itself?
