RE: [cross-project-issues-dev] Status of Callisto RC3

Thumps up from TPTP.

I confirm that TPTP RC2 is good and is reused for Callisto RC3. We retested with BIRT RC3a today and everything looks good.

The download bits were already on the update site since Callisto RC2.

Thanks,

-Sri

Just wanted to let readers of this list know that Callisto RC3 is pretty much ready for update.

Be sure to see the plan summary to figure out what's in, what't not.
http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Callisto_Plan_Summary

I say "pretty much ready" because it is ready on the /releases area, but has not had time
to proigate to mirrors. (We pretty much need to wait "over night" (Eastern Time Zone)
for mirror propation, so, I'd recommend no wider announcements until tommorrow, Wednesday).

But, in the mean time, that gives readers of this list an opportunity to sanity check your favorite
scenerios.

There's a few "new" features about this update. Its the first one that makes use of "siteOptimizer".
This gives us a digest,. It seems, informally, this makes the initial update manager list populate almost instantly.
(Validation still takes a while?).
Plus, some components (Java and PDE) have "packed" their own update sites (jars) allowing
us to do the same in Callisto.

If anyone wants to "time" the difference, I've prepared some special files which I think will not
use the optimized aspects. In addiiton to site.xml (which is "optimized"), there is
site-no-digest.xml
site-no-pack.xml, and
site-no-pack-no-digest.xml

Let us know how it goes.
