Re: [cdt-dev] Goodbye and Thank You!

Thanks Marc! It's people like you who've made it such a pleasure to work with this community. So many names from the past. I will never forget you all.

And I've see a lot of passion with our existing bunch. I'm not too worried about the future of the CDT. It's in good hands, and I know there are a few out there who would make it even better! ;)

Cheers,
Doug.

It would be unacceptable, even after 2 years of silence, for me not to react to such news.

Doug, I know it must have been an incredibly hard decision for you. Your love and dedication to the CDT will always be remembered and I doubt ever matched.

You have weathered many storms at the helm of the project and kept us all going strong for years.  You have welcomed new members, mentored them (myself included), and showed the way to so many of us.

Beyond the human aspect, you have pushed the project forward technically and kept challenging the status quo both in and outside the CDT.

Today is a sad day for the eclipse community.

And yet I am happy for you. I feel you deserve this revival of energy you mention in your blog. Change can be intimidating but I know it will bring out your talents even more.

I thank you from all of us but particularly from myself.  I wish you success and fulfillment in your new role!

I don't know how it works, but I would like nominate Doug Schaefer as Committer Emeritus.

Subject: [cdt-dev] Goodbye and Thank You!

Hey gang, I have some news to share with everyone. The active committers already know this.

I have left BlackBerry/QNX and will be taking on a new role at a different company that will take me away from the Eclipse community. It's a much needed change for me and a chance to re-energize with some former colleagues I really enjoyed working with. It was obviously a very hard decision as CDT has been a huge part of my life for almost 20 years. I will miss you all.

I have written a post with more, you can read it here https://medium.com/@dougschaefer/time-for-change-54156200cab8.

We have worked out a transition plan for the CDT project leadership role. Jonah Graham has kindly accepted our nomination and we will have a formal vote probably starting tomorrow. We'll use our CDT call tomorrow to talk about that.

I will be keeping this gmail account, cdtdoug, as my personal account as a reminder of where I came from. You can always reach me there if you need anything.

Thank you for everything you've done for the CDT and made this community so special to be a part of. Until we meet again.

Doug.
