I haven't looked at the patch, and unfortunately don't have time to.
But I think that's the best approach in the short term, at least.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something here, that's what my original 
suggested patch does by adding new configurations to the plugin.xml 
file, which are enabled when ppc64 architecture is detected.
