BIRT 2.1 Development Plan

We are close to getting the formal BIRT 2.1 Development Plan published. This has taken longer than we would have liked and is due to resource constraints on getting this written up and reviewed for posting.

Target is to get this posted next week.

In the meantime, Bugzilla continues to be the point of reference for the community to see what features and bug fixes that will be part of BIRT 2.1. All work for BIRT 2.1 is captured and scheduled in Bugzilla.

BIRT 2.1 Schedule

The development teams are in the process of re-configuring the packaging of BIRT so that individual Features map to individual JARs. This is one of the general requirements of the Callisto simultaneous release. This is more complex than originally thought and is therefore taking longer than planned. As a result, for BIRT 2.1 RC0 we may utilize the BIRT 2.1 M5 build and test with the latest RC0 Platform, EMF, GEF etc. We would then complete and use the repackaged BIRT code in BIRT 2.1 RC1.

Aside from this consideration, we continue to track with the Callisto plan (see Callisto project pages for details).

EclipseCon

Most of the PMC are at EclipseCon this week and are pleased to see the excitement around the BIRT project. Actuate has sponsored a BIRT booth in the Exhibit hall, which is seeing a lot of traffic. In addition, we have 3 presentations -- a 3 hour Tutorial yesterday, and two 45 minutes talks today. The BIRT introduction talk was standing room only with over 150 attendees and would probably have had more if the room was bigger.

It is has also been great to see that BIRT is already being embedded in 3 other products that are being shown in the Exhibit hall.
