I strongly agree. Aside from my previous point about us not redefining the language, it would be extreme for the spec to mandate that you can only use the long-hand version of any syntax. The shorthand is there for a very important reason, to save the writer time & effort. (I think it makes the source less noisy to read as well). Shorthand has proven incredibly valuable in the history of writing and trying to take that away would severely hurt the appeal of AsciiDoc.
