excel emitter: show output without excel (on linux) [message #730802]

Hi,

is there any tool, that is able to parse the output of the excel emitter in linux? i have no access to excel on my machine, openOffice won't open the output and even the excel viewer (started via wine) rejected the generated xls file. Excel 2010 on a windows7 machine accepted the output, but windows7 just for testing a simple report isn't really a solution for me.

Is the open office ODS emitter an option for you?

my users are enabled to choose between pdf/html/ods/odt/doc/xls output. because of my experience with the ods emitter (see here) i like to test all of these outputs with all of my reports. pdf/html/ods/odt is obv no problem with ubuntu, doc works with wordviewer within wine, but i'm still searching for a possibility to view that xls stuff that won't need me changing the machine for every report i test.
(excel viewer in wine is not able to open the produced xls)

Meanwhile the bug is marked as resolved, with this:

This is nice to know, but didn't solve my question at all. Anyone who knows a tool, that is able to render the xls emitter output on a linux?
