Re: [udig-users] Country boundaries shp
The http://www.freegis.org/ website has a good source of data; we include an old copy of the countries.shp in our udig sample download (used as part of walkthrough 1).

There has actually been a lot of activity in the area of free data over the last year; so it is worth doing a search for news anouncements etc...
