[udig-users] adding layer takes ages, still waiting

Hi I'm using udig 1.2M3 and it appears I can't even add a layer. The add data window stays open and runs for ages without opening anything. 
I'm on Windows XP but at the same issue from home on Ubuntu.

Tried to add layers of trivial size (polygons & points) to no avail. Shapefiles. Tested in different projection, even with no projection.
I kinda need 1.2M3 cause it apparently supports a projection previously not supported.

Anybody know what's up?
