I am not sure what you mean; as a programmer you could put some extra entries on a little "blackboard" for the layer. Developers use that to pass notes to each other while the program is running. But it sounds like you are wanting to write down some notes yourself; so far all you can do is rename a layer.

You are looking at the FeatureType; the description of the spatial data and the attributes recorded for each feature. There are two things to do: 1. Create a new Type that matches what you want and copy and paste the content over 2. Use the "Reshape" operation to add new attributes, generate new attribute, rename or remove attributes.

I tryed to do this by pressing properties on that layer and in the "Sumary" section I can see the attributes.
But I can't change anything.
