Nope. The basic plan was "support GeoTools data sources" and let the 
GeoTools project fill in the particular format details. The only 
explicit data source development in the uDig project plan is the WFS 
client and WMS client data sources.

Writing a GeoTools data source should be a relatively known quantity 
these days (api has settled down) and probably a good project for a 
contributor who wants to improve uDig *cough* :)
